Privacy and cookies

Last updated 31 October 2026.

Your analytics choice

Optional analytics stays off until you choose Accept. Decline is equally easy, and browsing works with either choice. Use Cookie settings at the top of every page to change your choice or withdraw permission by choosing Decline.

We store only your choice and its timestamp in a first-party cookie called forkcast_consent for up to 180 days. It contains no visitor identifier and is used to remember your privacy preference. After it expires we ask again. If cookies are blocked, analytics stays off and we cannot remember your choice.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control keep analytics off by default, without showing a banner. Cookie settings explains the signal; deliberately choosing Accept overrides that default for this site until your choice expires or you change it.

Optional PostHog analytics

After Accept, PostHog processes page visits and limited feature-use events in its EU service. Page URLs exclude query strings and fragments. Feature events contain the feature or action name, public event identifiers and source labels, and limited counts or plan-period choices. We do not send form inputs, names, email addresses, account identifiers, search text, or precise location to analytics.

Session replay, input autocapture, automatic error capture, heatmaps and person profiles are disabled. PostHog page analytics uses temporary in-memory identifiers rather than persistent tracking cookies or localStorage. Feature-use events use a random identifier stored in sessionStorage until the tab closes or consent is withdrawn. We disable IP-based geolocation and send a zeroed IP value; the analytics service necessarily receives network connections.

Decline or withdrawal stops new analytics events and clears this site's analytics storage. Data already delivered is not recalled. The 180-day limit applies to your consent preference, not a promise about PostHog's event retention.

Storage needed for the application

Sign-in uses authentication cookies. Map preferences, a location you choose to save, and completed onboarding may be remembered locally to make those features work. These are separate from optional analytics and are not removed when you decline it. Ordinary hosting and security request logs are also separate; this change does not add a cookieless counter.
