It follows the sound of the City Pop from Tokyo to Hong Kong and Taipei, past the genre’s usual boundaries. Side A: Tokyo is where most of us associate City Pop: Tatsuro Yamashita, Anri, and the breezy, sunlit tunes that have become synonymous with the genre. Side B: Hong Kong & Taipei crosses the water, taking us to Cantopop and Mandopop. While these records might not be categorized as City Pop on paper, they share the same spirit.
